Love Poems by Valentino Cortázar
Undoubtedly, Valentino Cortazar is the Painter of Love. His embrace of eternal life is his inspiration and auras of color caught in the wind, the beat of his heart.
Just by looking at the work presented in these pages, we declare you will feel the sensuality of his palette which shamelessly carries you into a torrent of unbridled kisses. The color of his work makes us blush; the passion of his strokes makes his love for life contagious. We justify any impulse of our emotions to get carried adrift amid the brush of our lips and give ourselves completely to the whims of the current, without any resistance. We could say that the brush of Valentino Cortazar, is a seal of love between the stars and is an accomplice to late night kisses of the moon to the sea.
Valentino Cortazar was born in Bogotá, Colombia , in 1949. At 18, he sailed to Italy with a backpack full of dreams and that spirit of freedom led him far beyond any youth´s imagined journey. Israel, Greece, Crete, Amsterdam, London, Denmark, Germany, New York and many more locations over the years imprinted upon his pictorial adventure and personal growth.
In the mid 70's he set up his workshop in Ibiza, in a house by the sea, with such an absurd view, that would make even the bravest man stumble. One afternoon in Port Lligat, when looking upon his first paintings full of color and strength, Salvador Dalí told him, "You are brave and have freedom in your hands”. The great master was right. Valentino Cortazar began to fly and continues to soar freely between the canvases, paper & lumber salvaged from the sea, always clinging to the reins of his desires that are nothing more than his veins full of love.
In early 2000 he returned to Colombia and settled in Cartagena in a gorgeous studio with balconies overlooking the most poignant colonial buildings of the City. Domes, plazas, convents, castles and that sea that always accompanies him are at his feet. The veils that barely cover the windows dance stylized on blue enamel tiles, as maidens seduced by the wind to wrap together in a delicious, warm and inspiring embrace before the artist´s eyes.
